No, people didn’t save up and pay in cash. Retail installment plans have been around since the 1920s for stuff like furniture and appliances.

If a person isn’t responsible with there own money, how can you expect them to be responsible with other things?
If I had to hire someone with a 750 credit score vs 600, I’d go with the 750 if all other things were equal.
March 12th, 2010 at 8:32 am
I’ve never even applied for a credit card and I never will, not that it’s going to matter in the next few years.
March 12th, 2010 at 8:32 am
First off if your credit score is low they jack your auto Insurance & home owners insurance sky high. Go and try to find a job and bam that credit score comes back to haunt you yet again. So these scores no longer affect only our borrowing power but all aspects of ones life. Kinda like a modern day debtors prision. The very people that need the help are being penalized . So yes I’d say score does count.

Anyone who works with finances takes the risk that they will check your credit score. They warned us about it when I was in college.
March 12th, 2010 at 8:32 am
The whole, “we need to check your credit score to hire you” is nonsense. It’s just another system of control to force people to maintain good credit.
How does someone managing their personal finance impact how well they will be at their job. Just nonsense.

The people who work in these stores have to meet a quota. Don’t take it personal. They’re just trying to not get fired.
March 12th, 2010 at 8:32 am
I had a 801 . But when all this @#!^ went down. I was informed that my credit on cards were cut in half.Even if all the @#!% cards were at 0.Then my score was 600.What the HELL?
March 12th, 2010 at 8:32 am
Haha nice
March 12th, 2010 at 8:32 am
24% interest? Why not make it 50%?
I think the mafia charges less.
Credit Scores can affect job searches, so I’m told, but it could all be a lie. Are there jobs to be found? Does a bad credit rating cause people not to get jobs? Only if you work in the insurance industry.

All cash …good idea…. If you don’t have cash then don’t buy it. Credit makes slaves.
March 12th, 2010 at 8:32 am
I dont agree with pushy credit card peddlers but….a good credit score shows that you are dependable, reliable, honest and worthy of entering into a contract. Thats why a lot of jobs these days look at your credit score. It gives them insight as to what kind of person you are. The key is dont get in over your head. If you know you cant pay back a loan then you dont need it.

Move to 32937.Life is great here.

I do use them, but never pay a dime on interests though. Just take advantage of the 30 to 50 days free period and also miles and insurances as I travel a lot.
Good point here though!

Actually, if you play it right, credit cards are a free 30-day loan that allow you to purchase today and pay next month. But you MUST pay it in full every month. If you miss a payment, then you lose.
Credit cards are relatively new. They were started in the 50s. Before then, people saved up and paid in cash. There’s nothing wrong with doing it the old fashioned way. It guarantees that you don’t get burned.
